Fandom Comparisons:Search-Engine-BasedData from 9/25-26/00, by number of hitsaka The Fanfiction Universe, Table 3I gathered these numbers by searching on Google!; details below. All this data was collected for a paper, "The Fanfic Universe". I originally planned to re-do these searches from time to time, but I ran into some problems. This table displays only fandoms that got more than 1000 total hits. I have an alphabetical list of fandoms that didn't make the cut this time. I also have a list of fandoms by slash hits. I was unable to come up with a satisfactory search strategy for several
fandoms with excessively normal names: Friends, Emergency, and Oz. I suspect
that the total number for ER is inflated by spurious hits, as well. If
anyone can come up with a good search strategy for these series, please
email me.
"fan fiction" [fandom name]and"fan fiction" [fandom name] slash For anime and manga fandoms I ran two additional searches: "fan fiction" [fandom name] yaoiIn these fandoms, the number in the slash column is actually slash + yaoi - (slash+yaoi).and"fan fiction" [fandom name] slash yaoi In Xena f/f is often called "alt". The number in the slash column is actually slash + alt - (slash+alt). I was unable to come up with a satisfactory search strategy for several fandoms with excessively normal names: Friends, Emergency, and Oz. I suspect that the total hits for ER is inflated by spurious hits, as well.
